EndNote for students

Download plug-in program to Word

The Microsoft Word add-in feature called Cite While You Write (CWYW) lets you easily insert citations in your text and add references to your bibliography from within any Word document. You can choose among thousands of so-called output styles, such as the well-known APA, Oxford, and Vancouver styles, but also journal-specific styles.

  • Log into your EndNote account and click the tab Downloads.
  • Click Download Windows or Download Macintosh and save the installer on your computer and then install it. Please remember to first close Word and all other Microsoft Office programs before you do this. It is when you open Word next time that CWYW will be installed into Word.

When you have downloaded the Cite While You Write plugin you should see a (new) tab to the rightmost of the upper toolbar.

Note! Sometimes you have to change from EndNote 20 (which is the desktop version) to EndNote Online. Otherwise, your EndNote library will not connect to Word. If it says EndNote 20 in your menu, click Preferences and then Application. Choose EndNote Online in the drop-down menu:
