Literature review methods

Welcome

Literature review as a research method

The purpose of this guide is to provide an overview of the many resources available to you during the process of performing a literature review as a research method. Not every research discipline has developed specific guidelines for the various steps in a literature review. However, there is a growing consensus around what essential steps should be included. This guide aims to support researchers from all disciplines, even if examples may be taken from the subject areas with well-established guidelines.

If you are a JU researcher or doctoral student, you can also book a meeting with the library team for research support for more information about how we can support you in your research project.

Please note, this guide is aimed primarily at doctoral students and researchers.

If you are a student on the level of Bachelor or Master, you will probably only have the time and resources to include limited aspects of the methodology we describe here. For more guidance, you can book a meeting with one of our student instruction librarians.
